About us

Who are we?

Our full name is: TUL Sports and Education Centre “Sports Bay”. Sports Bay is an organisational unit of Lodz University of Technology which was brought to life by the Directive No. 13/2016 issued by the Rector of Lodz University of Technology.

Witold Nykiel is the acting director.

What do we offer?

We invite you to a multi-activity sports complex for both sporting and community use, which is divided into two parts – the swimming pool component and the so-called dry component. The first one is principally a unique 50m. indoor swimming pool in Lodz. In this area we provide you with the best conditions to practice all water sports, specifically: swimming, water polo and triathlon. Olympic size swimming pool has 10 lines and is 2.5m. deep across its total length. Next to it: a counter-current swimming pool, in which swimmers can improve their swimming technique and a 25m. training pool. The biggest advantage of the latter is its movable floor. Depending on the necessity the floor can be levelled and have no depth or it can be lowered and reach up to 5m. in depth. This space will be devoted to swim lessons, aqua fitness and diving.

Apart from the pool area, Sports Bay will have an area devoted to indoor sports. A multi-purpose sports hall with a gallery for 600 spectators, which can be used also for events not connected with sports, with sports be its focal point. It is going to be equipped with a modern multimedia and sound system which will enable it be used for concerts, conferences and shows. This area will also include martial arts training halls and fitness halls. There will be also a spacious 500 m2 gym and two squash courts. This component is going to open in 2018.

In between these components there are climbing walls. In this area it will be possible to train speed climbing, bouldering and lead climbing. The wall prepared for belaying has 60 stances which allow us to offer more than 200 climbing ropes.

Where can you find us?

We are located at the TUL’s campus on Politechniki 10 Street.

Dry zone

Apart from the wet zone, Sports Bay will have an area devoted to indoor sports. A multi-purpose sports hall with seating for 600 spectators will be the focal point. Its cubic capacity and the spacious gallery will enable league matches of many sport disciplines like volleyball, basketball and handball. Additionally, it will be possible to organize amateur matches of badmington and 6 players futsal.

The hall also will be used for events which are not strictly connected to sports. It is already equipped with a modern multimedia and sound system which will enable to organize concerts, conferences and shows.

This area will also include a martial arts training hall and a fitness hall. The first one will have two mats, ladders and punch bags and several dozen people will be able to practice at the same time. The fitness hall will be equipped with bars and mirrors and will be prepared to run aerobic, Pilates, Zumba, yoga and ballet classes under the watchful eye of certified trainers.

Next to these halls there will be also a spacious 500 m2 gym and two squash courts.

This component is going to open in 2018.

Our climbing wall is one of the biggest in Poland. It will be possible to train for speed climbing, bouldering and leading.

The wall prepared for belaying has 60 stances which allow us to offer more than 200 climbing ropes at varied difficulty level from the easiest for amateurs and children to most advanced routs for the world-class contestants.

There is also a large bouldering wall. Bouldering is a new climbing discipline, which is growing in popularity, in which short “problematic” routs are done on low, maximum 4m. high walls without any protection or ropes but with a special mattress placed below. Such wall is also perfect to learn the climbing technique and to organize competitions in this discipline.

Additionally, we have a wall constructed according to IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) norms, which is prepared for contests in speed climbing. On this wall all types of competitions can take place, including world championships, and all scores will be officially internationally recognized. Polish current record holder is Marcin Dzieński, a European champion and a world champion who climbed a 15m. high wall in 5,95 s in 2016.

We also organize:

• courses and climbing sections on different levels of proficiency;

• occasional events: birthday parties, integration events, bachelorette/bachelor parties, and many others;

• academic community activation programmes, classes for students,

• summer/winter play centres for children.

50m. swimming pool

A true gem of sports Lodz! The only 50m. swimming pool in Lodz. Here we provide you with the best conditions to practice all water sports (a link to article about water sports) specifically: swimming, water polo and triathlon. Olympic size swimming pool has 10 lanes and is 2.5m. deep across its total length. Next to it are: a counter-current swimming pool, in which swimmers can improve their swimming technique. While a competitor is swimming, a trainer in a separate room from underneath can observe the swimmer’s movements. Thanks to these observations it is easier to eliminate mistakes which later decide on winning medals! The whole training can be also recorded thanks to professional staff and high quality equipment from the TUL’s Multimedia Centre (a link to the article about TUL MC).
